Looking for a new cellphone carrier? If you want the best network quality, you might want to avoid T-Mobile.
That is among the findings of recent rankings from J.D. Power.
The 2023 U.S. Wireless Network Quality Performance Study — based on responses from 35,120 wireless customers nationwide — found that T-Mobile offered the worst (or tied for the worst) wireless network quality in all but one region.
In three of six U.S. regions, T-Mobile had the most network quality problems per 100 connections in terms of call, messaging and data services, J.D. Power says. In two other regions, it tied for the most problems.
In the sixth region (the Northeast), T-Mobile’s score indicated slightly fewer network quality problems than AT&T.
At the other end of this spectrum is Verizon Wireless. In four regions, the carrier had the fewest network quality problems per 100 connections. In the Northeast, T-Mobile tied with Verizon for the top spot. Meanwhile, AT&T slightly outperformed Verizon in the Southwest.
Overall, however, the performance between carriers is not dramatically different.
“Overall network quality satisfaction is improving, and the race for number one is tightening,” says Ian Greenblatt, managing director at J.D. Power.
