Costco’s New Sundae Becomes Sweet Sensation With Shoppers

Costco is getting into the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day and going viral for a new sweet treat.

The popular wholesale retailer added a green, new flavor to its lineup of sundaes: the double chocolate mint sundae.

Social media account Costco Buys, which tracks “hot Costco finds,” said in a post on Instagram that the new double chocolate mint sundae, which retails for $2.99, includes “mint ice cream layered with cookie crumbles and rich chocolate sauce.”

“The mint and chocolate combo is tasty, refreshing, and extra chocolatey in the best way,” Costco Buys said, adding the dessert contains “790 calories of pure food court chaos.”

Costco’s latest dessert dropped Feb. 16, according to The Street and Food & Wine.

Costco did not immediately respond to USA TODAY’s request for more information on its latest menu item, and it is not clear if the new dessert has rolled out nationwide.

Social media reacts to new sundae at Costco

One social media user who goes by the name Costco Guide Angela said in a TikTok video the sundae reminded her of “a thin mint Girl Scout cookie.”

Utah-based digital creator Morgan Chomps said the sundae was a “solid offering for March” and comes with “lots of chocolate sauce drizzles and chocolate cookie crumbles.”

The mint-flavored soft serve is also available on its own or with vanilla, according to Food and Wine. The outlet added the new mint flavor has replaced Costco’s chocolate soft serve for now, noting the retailer has previously rotated soft-serve flavors on its food court menus, which means this new flavor is likely limited edition.

Costco Chika, a California-based content creator, in a TikTok video said the Costco she visited offered the new mint flavor in eight different ways, including with strawberry sundae, which she tried and enjoyed.

Costco’s new drop did not take long to gain traction on social media, with many users sharing their own thoughts and reviews on the new flavor.

Shamrock Shake returns at McDonald’s

Costco isn’t the only one offering minty goodness this season.

McDonald’s on Feb. 17 brought back its beloved Shamrock Shake in honor of St. Patrick’s Day, which is celebrated on March 17.

Consisting of vanilla soft-serve ice cream, minty green flavored syrup and whipped topping, the Shamrock Shake has been a cult classic since its debut in 1970. The minty milkshake is available for a limited time each year ahead of the lucky holiday.

The Oreo Shamrock McFlurry will also reappear on McDonald’s menu starting Feb. 17. The seasonal dessert, which first dropped in 2020 to celebrate Shamrock Shake’s 50th anniversary, is made with vanilla soft-serve ice cream, artificially flavored mint green syrup and Oreo cookie pieces.
